OSN Power Rankings
Josh Callaway January 7th, 2021
The first OSN Power Rankings of 2021 have arrived.
This is where the season gets really fun. Everything to this point has been largely based on projections and expectations – now teams start to separate from the pack.
Practically every single team will play multiple games every single week the rest of the way. We are going to know what teams are the best very soon.
As the playoff picture begins to take shape, here are the first OSN Power Rankings of the new year.
LARGE SCHOOLS (BOYS)
#1 Edmond Memorial – 12/23: #1
Edmond Memorial remains the top team in the state. They didn’t have an early game this week to pad their resume further, but right now they have to remain as No. 1. That win over Kingfisher is among the best that any team has and they are undefeated, so it is still their spot for now.
#2 Heritage Hall – 12/23: #2
Heritage Hall is in a similar position as Edmond Memorial in that they did not have an early game this week so it is hard to move them off of their spot. Their resume of wins is so impressive, including a 20-point win over Lawton MacArthur. They have a great argument to be No. 1 and will have their chance to get that top spot soon.
#3 Lawton MacArthur – 12/23: #4
This is our first shakeup, with MacArthur making the leap into the top three. The debate between them and Memorial is strong, with the two teams having split their meetings so far this season. But MacArthur’s win over Putnam City West, a team Memorial lost to, really tightened the gap. Then they went and got a blowout win over Piedmont this week that has pushed their way to No. 3.
#4 Memorial – 12/23: #3
#5 Crossings Christian – 12/23: #5
#6 Kingfisher – 12/23: #6
#7 Putnam City North – 12/23: #7
#8 Millwood – 12/23: #8
#9 Carl Albert – 12/23: #9
#10 Hugo – 12/23: NR
LARGE SCHOOLS (GIRLS)
#1 Norman – 12/23: #2
We have a new top dog in the girls large schools rankings. Norman is 6-0 and they are fresh off of a 50-point demolition of a solid Deer Creek team earlier this week. Their resume of wins is exceptionally strong and they are deserving of the top spot, and they’ll have more huge chances coming up to tighten their grip on the No. 1 ranking.
#2 Edmond North – 12/23: #1
Edmond North drops from No. 1 to No. 2 after their overtime loss to Mustang. They got beat, simple as that. But, they are still a fantastic team that will certainly be a heavy contender for the title in 6A. Again, absolutely can’t wait for Edmond North and Norman to square off on Jan. 19th.
#3 Weatherford – 12/23: NR
How about this, the Lady Eagles go from unranked all the way up to No. 3 in this week’s rankings. Weatherford has flat out put out an unbelievable resume of wins, highlighted by a victory over a sensational Anadarko team. Their only loss was a 6-point game to Edmond North. They have earned this spot.
#4 Sapulpa – 12/23: #4
#5 Ft. Gibson – 12/23: #5
#6 Moore – 12/23: NR
#7 Carl Albert – 12/23: #6
#8 Roland – 12/23: #7
#9 Union – 12/23: #8
#10 Anadarko – 12/23: #3
SMALL SCHOOLS (BOYS)
#1 Roff – 12/23: #1
It is hard to move Roff off of the top spot as it currently stands. The smaller school rankings are incredibly top heavy with many of the best teams having not played each other at this point. Also, many schools are yet to return to action after the holiday break, so these rankings won’t have many shakeups.
#2 Hydro-Eakly – 12/23: #2
Same situation as Roff, Hydro-Eakly doesn’t have any new results under the belt since the last rankings and thus it is hard to have any reason to move them around. The small school rankings will largely stay the same this week.
#3 Hooker – 12/23: #3
Hooker is actually one of the smaller schools who has returned to action in 2021, picking up two wins over Class A schools. As all these teams heavily return to action with tournaments and matchups against one another, there will be a much greater chance for movement in the rankings going forward through January.
#4 Dale – 12/23: #4
#5 Varnum – 12/23: #5
#6 Arapaho-Butler – 12/23: #6
#7 Oklahoma Union – 12/23: #7
#8 Ft. Cobb-Broxton – 12/23: #8
#9 Calumet – 12/23: #9
#10 Garber – 12/23: NR
SMALL SCHOOLS (GIRLS)
#1 Vanoss – 12/23: #1
Vanoss has a vice grip on the top spot right now. They are 9-0, they have beaten some really good teams, and they have simply earned it. It is going to be extremely difficult to take them off of the No. 1 ranking without them losing a game somewhere down the road.
#2 Silo – 12/23: #2
Like we were saying in the boys small school rankings, many of the smaller schools haven’t returned to action much yet. So, the rankings will largely stay the same this week. Silo’s win over Dale is still one of the very best that anyone has, there is no way they should be moved down as things currently stand.
#3 Lomega – 12/23: #4
Lomega cracks the top-3 with another win picked up this week over Okeene to move them to 6-0 on the season. They are undefeated with good wins, so they get the spot narrowly over Leedey, who is hot on their tails.
